Did Not Barf
Jun. 10th, 2007 03:51 pmSo we went to the Farallone Islands again as per tradition to see the birds there and go whale watching. We actually got there on time for once and left on a new boat with a new crew.
We didn't see anything of interest except harbor seals--which almost never happens, since we usually see at least one humpback--but the ride was awesome.
It was the craziest time I've ever had out there, and my mom and I have done this like eight times before. The ocean was the choppiest I've ever seen it, we're talking big swells here. Mom and I rode in the bow for the first part and we both got completely drenched. I figured I'd have a chance to dry off on the way home, but no such luck. The wind and waves got so bad (read: so much fun) that we couldn't even get to the Farallones, so we ended up just tooling around on the ocean.
Everyone was getting seasick. I felt so bad for people, I mean even people who had never gotten seasick before were puking. These two people spent almost the entire time leaning over the railing. It's understandable; I mean, we were rolling and the boat actually popped out of the water a few times. It was crazy. And usually the chop goes away as the day wears on, but this stuck with us until we were on our way back to San Fran.
So I got drenched, and eventually got really cold, and kept having to dodge people who were racing to the railings. But I didn't get sick at all, so I'm pretty proud of myself.
Anyway, it was a lot of fun, even if we didn't see anything. I feel like the world is rolling under my feet, there's salt literally caked on my face and I smell kind of funky. I love it.
Had an idea today--I've wanted to do the Appalachian Trail at some point, and what better time to do it than when I'm in college? Start down in Georgia some spring and make my way north. Kate seemed interested when I brought it up before, but it'd be great if the four of us could coordinate and do it. Maybe not the whole thing, though I'd love to do the whole thing someday, but maybe bits and pieces. That'd be awesome, just spend a few months away from civilization.
Completely random, I know.
Oh, and on the anime front, I've decided that the people who voice Naruto in English have gotten slightly better, though I don't think I'll ever watch it in English if I have the choice. Ever. I've been watching GetBackers as well, finally, and I'm well into it at this point and boy is it getting fun. I've also gotten into Sousei no Aquarion and...it's weird but it's also interesting, and I like it. I think it'd be perfect for ASIC because there's just so much in it dying to be made fun of, though not to the point that it's like, "XOMG this SUXORS!" Just...there's a lot of weird sexual things going on that that crowd would have oh-so-much-fun with. It's kind of like a mix of Angel Sanctuary (without the incest) and Evangelion (with less emo). The premise is pretty much, these angel people are hanging out and kind of killing off humans, and of course a few choice youngsters have to be trained to fight them off. The twist is that, the way they do this is by "uniting" with each other, lol, feel free to interpret that for yourselves. And one particular guy seems to be the reincarnation of an angel that turned on his kind to help the humans a long time ago. Hafta admit, he's pretty awesome (Julie, Liqu would love this guy). He runs around on all fours and bites the heads off of rats. Lol.
Meanwhile, my brother left our memory card at his girlfriend's house, so I can't finish Okami or go further on Kingdom Hearts, FFX or Shadow of the Colossus until he gets it back. Thanks, Ben.
