I'm pretty sure I'm the last person to hear about the show Gurren-Lagann, which started airing in Japan...in April I think?

I'm on episode three and it's quite enjoyable so far. Absolutely wonderful animation.

Lol, I guess it's better that I stop now only three episodes in when the real shit hasn't started happening. It strikes me as the kind of show ASIC would enjoy.

Have you seen it? How is it overall?

I've only seen the first episode, but my understanding from Alec and everyone I know who's ever seen it is that it is ridiculously awesome. I mean, it's Gainax.

Well, it's certainly got a massive fanbase online. I've been hearing the names "Kamina" and "Viral" thrown around for months and I wondered what it was all about.

Yeah, I've been dying to see it actually, but I've been holding off because Alec has been constantly recommending it for ASIC, so I figured I'd wait.

That reminds me. Did you ever watch Darker than Black, and if so, whatcha think? Not that it'll likely be on the agenda for next semester, but I think ASIC would have fun with it.

I've only seen the first four episodes, but honestly, I was a little bored. Does it get more interesting? Should I keep watching? Cause I know certain anime don't get really good until a certain point.

The next two episodes introduce a bunch of awesome new characters and give you more insight into the world as a whole. Also gives you a wee bit of Hei's backstory.

Aw, but if you didn't get interested with that first glimpse inside Hell's Gate, then I don't know. :(

Though overall, 5 and 6 are two of my faves.

And I was kind of interested with the first glimpse into Hell's gate, and I must say I love all of the OCD things they give all of the contractors (I honestly think that the writers had the most fun with that... I mean, earmarking?) But I really don't much care for Hei yet. Maybe I will once I know more of his back story.

Lol, please do. If the next two episodes don't hook you, then I don't know if it will, but my favorite two episodes ever aren't until...eleven and twelve I think?

Yeah that's the funny thing, because I do love Hei and his partners but it's the world and the ideas overall that I absolutely love. Hell's Gate, the contractors, I just love it all. And I really love Kirihara and the conflict between the cops and the contractors.

Trouble is, you don't get much depth for the characters until a ways in. They have a way of sneaking it in that I like. The main reason I fell in love with Hei so quickly was because of the almost-but-not-quite split personality he has between Hei himself and Li. It's just such a switch, and you can tell there's something not quite genuine about either of them, but Li is so adorable and Hei is so badass that you're willing to wait for more to be revealed.
