Dude, what the hell is going on in this country? First Nebraska, then Colorado, now Las Vegas? And all in the space of a week, too! Damn it, people, it's December, it's a month of life and rebirth and joy and peace--least it's supposed to be. Stop fucking it up for people.

Nonono, JANUARY is the month of life and rebirth and joy. It's the new year, everyone has new stuff or giftcards to buy new stuff, they reconnect with people they may not spend much time with at other times of the year, and they get a fresh start. December is the month of panic, overwork, constant travel, and death. Many people do Christmas shopping or at least have to deal with those that do Christmas shopping, we college students have papers, projects, and finals, and people who celebrate holidays often have to travel a lot to be with family. The stress is high enough to make people snap at each other. Couple that with the sometimes lousy weather and you're just asking for trouble. I partially think that's why they have the new year at this time of year, so that people have something to look forward to through one of the most depressing months of the year.

Ah yes, seasonal affect disorder (that's what it's called, right?). It's just so unfortunately...Christmas, Hannukah, Yule, Kwanzaa, we have all these celebrations, but still people get so depressed and shit like this happens. And I never really understood the whole "it's the season of stress" until I came to college and started buying gifts for a hell of a lot more people. Gaaah...

And technically I suppose you could count any month in the beginning of the year as the month of joy and rebirth etc. (February=Candlemas/Imbolc and Valentine's Day, April=Easter et al, May=May Day, Beltane...)
