Paper Hearts
May. 18th, 2004 04:39 pmNo quotes for this one, but I'll tell you right now that it was a sad one. Sad for Mulder anyway, and all those little girls...
-----------------------------------------------------
Well, here I was thinking things couldn't get more depressing. Every 15 Minutes continued today with the funeral/memorial service. Parents got up and read letters to "dead" kids, and kids got up and read letters to parents. The ones actually involved in the accident talked about their experiences, and they had a guy who did 4 years for vehicular manslaughter after he killed his brother in a drunk driving accident.
I have never seen a grown man cry before.
The parents all cried when they went up there. The three kids who read letters all cried. By then me and the rest of the audience except some were sobbing too.
And it brought it all home when two girls got up there and talked about real experiences with losing a loved one because of a drunk driver. One of them had even had a DUI before...
So all in all, the whole day has been kind of a downer. Just kind of. Yeah.
The worst part was when they talked about a kid from two years ago who went to the Every 15 Minutes assembly too--and then two weeks after graduation, wrapped his car around a tree while drunk. What a way to end the assmebly. Way to leave us with hope for the future, there. But what fools are we to think an assembly will change anything?
If one person changes, then the assembly worked. But still, in five years or less I can guarantee, someone from our class will die while driving drunk, or will be killed by a drunk driver.
Yeah. Downer.
So!!! On a somewhat happier note, I've made it to the Next Big Event in Alch. 1--so it's back to running smoothly! Woot! I'll have my peeps spend a while where they are now, there will be a run-in with a bad guy or two, then it's off to the next Next Big Event. And onwards!!
Days left: 27
