It was really kind of a lonely day today. Everyone was gone when I got up, because my mom was chaperoning a concert at my brother's high school that he was going to, and my dad was at work. My dad came back for a few minutes but then went off to an astronomy meeting. I was pretty much all alone at home until an hour or so ago.
My friends all called to say Happy Birthday, so it wasn't too bad ^.^
I got PJs, a Kachina doll, two checks, the two Trickster books by Tamora Pierce, Pride and Prejudice, the movie An Inconvenient Truth, and a book called Defining the World by Henry Hitchings. Lol, I'm already bringing so many books home. Don't know how I'm gonna pull it off.
I finished the book Two Days to Never, and it's really, really good. A very unconventional time travel book.
Also watched the movie The Best Years of Our Lives today. It's a black and white from back in the day about three WWII veterans who come home and have to deal with readjusting, getting jobs, all that good stuff. The three guys are Homer, a sailor who lost both hands (the actor was a real war veteran who really lost his hands) and now has hooks to replace them, Fred a bomber pilot with nightmares who comes home to a wife who doesn't appreciate him, and Al, an older infantry vet who has to deal with the fact that his children are all grown up and the bank he works for doesn't want to give out loans to veterans.
It's really good. It's an extremely good character study; all three main characters are so three-dimensional, and you get up close and personal with the various ways people handle the readjustment of coming back after a war. In those terms, the movie can also be applied to WWI, Korea, Vietnam and Iraq. Excellent movie overall.
Score: 8.5 out of 10
Not much else to say...having birthday dinner tomorrow right before I leave, that should be nice.
