Watched the Trigun backstory ep today. Woot.
But more importantly...LOST!!
Okay. It seems to me that, the last season and the start of this season were all concerned with redeeming the characters. All the characters had backstories and pasts that they were trying to get over--baggage they wanted to leave behind. Things were all good and fine in the first season and in the start of this one. But it seems like ever since they opened the goddamn Hatch things have been going downhill. Characters are un-redeeming themselves.
We have Jack, who's starting to lose it and wants to build an army. We have Charlie and all that shit last episode. We have Michael going nuts and running off into the jungle. We have Locke who A, opens the Hatch, B, seems to be going nuts himself and C, hits Charlie (which, as Sawyer said in tonight's ep, is like "getting Gandhi to beat up his children").
And now Sawyer.
The TV guide tends to spoil things--they did say that this ep would kind of reaffirm Sawyer's status as Island-resident bad guy.
And I have to say I'm disappointed. Fucking over all the Islanders, getting the guns, getting power, screwing over Jack in particular, and getting people to hate him again (after they were all starting to like him too...he did get a strange look in his eye when Hurley (or was it Kate?) told him people were starting to like him). All of that makes sense with Sawyer Logic, so I understand why he did it.
Never saw it coming, though. Yes, Sawyer is selfish, and yes he's a con man, and yes he's emotionally masochistic, but this is going way too far. It's too selfish. It's almost outside the bounds of Sawyeresque selfishness.
I'm not really pissed at him, but this ep just made me want to shake my head.
Especially with his flashbacks! Because everyone is pulling for him to do the right thing and be all "yes I really do love you!" or if not that, just assuming that the girl is going to con him right back. And then he turns around and is...Sawyer. Of course as he was sitting in that car counting, he looked so full of self-loathing.
*sigh* He's a complex guy.
Charlie though! As happy as I am that he really isn't on heroin again, DUDE, WHAT THE FUCK IS HE DOING?! Fucking everyone over just so he can make Locke feel like an idiot??!! That's not like him at all! AND KIDNAPPING SUN LIKE THAT?!?! Charlie, Charlie, Charlie, wake up!
Ever since they opened that stupid Hatch things have been going wrong.
Graaaaaa!
