Why do you think everyone knew Orochimaru was going to die once he revealed his "true form" and they started saying his back story?
It's actually a good way to kill people off. It ensures that nobody dies anti-climatically. I think Jiraya had one of the best deaths in the series so far. Good for him.
I'm right where you are in DW so I can't spoil anything. There's only one episode I've seen that you haven't seen and it's in the third season and it's still my personal favorite. It's called "Blink". You'll love it when you see it.
I've decided that when I catch up, I'll try watching the old series during the off-seasons. I'm thinking of starting with the 4th Doctor since he's the most popular and since there are no lost or b&w episodes once he's the Doctor. Though I may start with the 3rd Doctor just because they introduce the Master in his tenure. I dunno. It depends on what's available I suppose.
