Yeah, that's Claude. I'm not sure how to get the older stuff either. It's nearly impossible to get anything before the Fourth Doctor. There are over 700 episodes total, so it's kind of a mess for new fans like you and I. Perhaps we should stick to the new series for the time being.
Oh, and the multiple Doctors thing isn't a spoiler. Basically, it was a way for the writers to recast the Doctor without driving the continuity crazy.

Basically, when they regenerate they completely change their appearance, behavior, and certain abilities, but always retain their memories. They are capable of regenerating 12 times (meaning there can be a total of 13 Doctors before rewriting the rules). The most recent one is the 10th Doctor. There are Time Lords who have regenerated more than 12 times, but they usually have severe side affects and craziness.
I personally love how they don't just pull a James Bond, they have a logical explanation for the varying appearance and behavior of the Doctor.
