Two Days. Not that I'm Counting
May. 9th, 2006 01:03 amI have to put this in here:
Quick note here: if this crush—slash—swooning stuff is hard for you to stomach; if you’ve never had a similar experience, then you should come to grips with the fact that you’ve got a TV dinner for a heart and might want to consider climbing into a microwave and turning it on high for at least an hour, which if you do consider only goes to show what kind of an idiot you truly are because microwaves are way too small for anyone, let alone you, to climb into.
This comes from a part of one of Truant's many asides, where he waxes poetic about a girl he's fallen in love with.
I freaking love this book. Honestly. It's already on my top ten list and I'm not even close to halfway through. Just...the way it's written, the type-setting, the juxtaposition of Zampano's story of the house with Truant's asides about his life, plus little things--for instance, every time you see the word house in the book, it's highlighted in blue. Words are mispelled, but instead of detracting from it all it gives it a more realistic sense, like this really is something found in a dead man's apartment and compiled by a twenty-something tattoo apprentice who does too many drugs. I have yet to see "would have,"--it's always "would of." And also, the front cover of the book is smaller than the rest of it. Bigger on the inside than on the outside, like the house it describes.
Also, I was interested to see how Poe's album goes along with the book. I haven't had time to listen to the whole thing, but on the bonus track "Hey Pretty," the guy who's just talking--that's Mark (author) reading from the book. In fact I just read the section he's reading. Awesome.
I went out and bought a bookcase today. Well technically it's a CD/DVD rack thing. But it's nice, it's wooden and a great size and only took maybe 2-1/2 hours to assemble. Still need to nail it to the wall, cause it's not the steadiest thing on the carpet, but oh well. Found it at Best Buy. Along with Frou Frou's Details and a Barenaked Ladies greatest hits album. Just because. Oh, and I broke down and bought the Yu Yu Hakusho movie, because my Internet's been spazzing and it's honestly been two weeks while it's been trying to download, plus it was only 9 bucks. In any case, it's a bit random, but not half as random as the other movie (the short one), but overall it's good. The beginning is a bit...I dunno, I just had trouble getting into it until about halfway through. Like I didn't entirely understand what was going on. The concept was simple enough, the plot I mean, but I dunno, there was just some kind of shallowness to it. Hard to explain. Oclapo, as Kate would say. I think. (Don't ask.)
In any case,
gurmpy if you read this, if you want I can send it to you. Just make sure you watch it in Japanese because the English will burn your ears.
While I was out I also bought a new whiteboard for the wall, and went to Q Cup for bubble tea. And hung posters. And I finally watched the Wallace and Gromit movie, and it is adorable, thank you.
Didn't have time to look for a job. I think I'll get on that while people are at school tomorrow. I can't nail the bookcase to the wall until my dad gets home tomorrow since I don't know how to use a power drill (there's a sexist joke in there, I know), and stocking the shelves will take awhile, otherwise that would be my day project. Figure I'll get back to writing as well, and look into how to build a potato gun. And read some more of the House.
